Patent Engineer

Function

Your mission is to support B.I.G.’s innovation strategy by protecting and managing the intellectual assets. You are reporting to the Group IP Manager.
Your main tasks and responsibilities include:

Invention harvesting:

  • You will work closely with RED project teams in order to identify patentable developments, in accordance with B.I.G.’s IP strategy
  • You will be the liaison between different project teams in order to maximize the potential of new developments across different B.I.G. divisions
  • You will contribute to the development of the IP culture across B.I.G.

Competitive Intelligence:

  • You will conduct prior art searches (patentability, freedom-to-operate) and/or coordinate such activities with external experts
  • You will create awareness across B.I.G. about competitive IP

IP Portfolio Management:

  • You will assist in the patent drafting process, freedom-to-operate assessments and opposition files
  • You will handle administrative tasks related to the patent portfolio, R&D agreements, and the IP budget
  • You will work with outside counsels (e.g. providing instructions regarding annuity payments and patent actions)

Profile

You are multi-disciplinary, with a keen interest in innovation and technology yet also in legal/IP matters. The function requires creativity but also punctuality.

  • You have a technical/scientific background, preferably in the field of chemistry, textile, nonwovens, engineering
  • You have expertise in competitive intelligence, patent searching, patent & contracts database management
  • A first experience working within an IP department is a plus
  • You have the ability to interact with people from a diverse group of people, functions and levels.
  • You have good communication and presentation skills
  • Candidates interested in taking the European patent exam will also be considered, however this is not a pre-requisite for this function
